Dennis Fowler, M.D., M.P.H, was formerly V.P./Medical Director of Perioperative Services at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia where he was also the Gerald and Janet Carrus Professor of Surgical Science and Director of the Simulation Center. As a clinical surgeon, he concentrated his work on minimally invasive surgery and surgical education. He is currently focused on outcomes research and technology development to improve all aspects of surgical care activities which fit squarely with his role as a Board Member of SE Healthcare Quality Consulting. Recently, he accepted the position of President of the Foundation for Surgical Fellowships, a foundation created to provide funding for advanced surgical training.
Dr. Fowler has served as United States Surgical Professor of Clinical Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Chief of the Division of General Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, and Director of the Minimal Access Surgery Center at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, among many other prominent positions.
Dr. Fowler is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, for which he has also served as an at-large member of the Board of Governors, and is a past board member for the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. He also completed a term on the GI Advisory Council of the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Fowler was widely published on the subject of laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery in independent volumes, textbooks, and journals. He has been on the editorial boards of Surgical Innovation, Surgical Endoscopy (the Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons), and Hernia and has also been a reviewer for JAMA,Surgery, Transplantation, and Annals of Surgery.
